Complications....
I can't believe that the last time we posted was over two months ago. So much has happened since then! For this posting I'd like to get you up to date on the pregnancy.
It has definitely not been an easy one. Along with the usual aches and pains that come with pregnancy (heart burn, backache) earlier on I had failed my first diabetes screen but then, thankfully, passed the second. With my work schedule being unchanged (not without my trying!) I've been totally exhausted and spend most of my time at home sleeping - which has been undoubtedly hard on Sydney and Jon. The swelling in my legs and feet had really reached comical proportions - there were some socks that I couldn't even fit in and my feet retained perfect impressions of even my loosest fitting shoes for hours after I got home. Night time has also been a struggle - with all the water retention (and weight gain) I've become quite the snorer and don't breathe well at night which results in about 45 minute spurts of sleep, lots of tossing and turning, and getting up to pee about 5 times/night. Jon opted to sleep elsewhere to try to give me more space (and get more sleep I suspect!). My sleeping improved somewhat when my sister and her husband sent me an awesome full body pillow which can support your stomach and back at the same time.
All those complaints seemed to be normal pregnancy stuff to us but we had quite a scare earlier this week. During my ER shift I noticed that I was experiencing mild contractions - not unusual for twin pregnancies and I had had them the last three nights or so. On those prior occasions they had dissapated once I rehydrated and stopped working. However these became a little more regular and uncomfortable and I phoned the covering doctor who told me to come in for an exam. When I got to the hospital the contractions were every 2 minutes and I couldn't talk through them - and I was pretty scared being only 31 wks pregnant. They admitted me and gave me steroids to help the babys' lungs mature faster and tocolyzed me (stopped the ctx) with a medication. After 2 days there and no change to my cervix they allowed me to come home last night with continued medication to halt contractions and "modified" bedrest. Its great to be home but we're still feeling very nervous about the future. My work is on total hold for now but I may try to continue a low key clinic schedule if I continue to feel well.
So please keep these girls in your thoughts and prayers - we're still hoping to get to 35 wks gestation but 4 more weeks seems so far away right now. .......
